Jade has had a deep relationship with music since he was a child. Growing up in a household where music was played constantly, either through a stereo or the jam sessions of his father and uncles. When he was in high school, he played in several ‘garage’ bands, including My Friend December, The Young Beards, The Dead Penningtons, and High As A Kite. Playing house shows and even attempting to play bars despite being underage, as young musicians are apt to.
When he moved to Denver in 2013, he began to focus more seriously on his writing. He made his first album on a cell phone with an acoustic guitar under the name Burnt Toast Cosmonaut. This musical identity has grown in a catalog of 11 ‘major’ releases, ranging from acoustic eps to experimental art music that conceptually aligns with his visual art to tributes to Daniel Johnston.
Of course, Burnt Toast Cosmonaut has evolved into a collaborative project. Alongside Jade Steven, his main collaborator has been Rev. Klaus Mondo, a regular of the vapor punk scene. Jade Steven is always looking for ways to collaborate with other artists and musicians. So feel free to contact him with any ideas.
